The product
SlatePlate™
The patented spacing-plate kit that mounts solar to slate — nothing removed, nothing loaded onto the slate. It’s designed to transfer the array’s load to the roof structure, not the slate. Solar Slate Solutions makes SlatePlate and installs the slate mounting, working alongside your solar installer, who handles the panels, electrical, and permitting.

U.S. & E.U.
patented mounting system
SlatePlate is a patented spacing-plate mounting kit. Each unit is one attachment point, and its geometry is designed to transfer the array’s load to the roof structure, not the slate.
What’s in the kit
Five components. One purpose.
Each SlatePlate unit ships as a complete attachment point. The L-mount that carries your racking is chosen by the installer and is not included.
- 1 · SlatePlate — the flashing that slips between the slate courses. Part# SPLAT02.
- 2 · Base w/Notch — interlocks with the patented Spacer. Part# BASWN02.
- 3 · Spacer — screws together with the Adjuster to set the standoff for any slate thickness. Part# SPACR01/02.
- 4 · Adjuster — married to the Spacer, it dials in the exact height; together they hold the array’s weight off the slate and carry it into the roof rafters, so the tiles can’t crack or break. Part# ADJST01.
- 5 · Stainless-steel lag — 5-1/2 in (6 in option), 5/16 in dia., anchors the assembly into the structural rafter. Part# LAG5501 / LAG6001.
- Not included · L-Mount — installer-supplied. SlatePlate works with most single-hole L-mounts.
Specifications
Every part, on the record.
Dimensions and materials are drawn from the current bill of materials and engineering drawings. Nominal values; drawings govern for tolerances.
| Part | Dimensions (nominal) | Material | Fire rating | Temp. limit | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 · SlatePlate (SPLAT02) | 17.25 in H × 7.375 in W × 0.625 in D; blade ~0.060 in thick | 20% mineral-filled polypropylene (PP050, HOSTACOM TRC 333N) + dark-gray colorant | UL94 HB | 241°F | ~169 g |
| 2 · Base w/Notch (BASWN02) | 1.24 in × 2.52 in × 0.45 in | Polypropylene (PP215, Flint Hills PP H0500HN) | UL94 HB | 241°F | ~25 g |
| 3 · Spacer (SPACR01/02) | 0.75 in × 1.08 in × 0.75 in; 7/8-10 OD thread | Nylon (PA1000, HYLON N1000STL) | UL94 HB | 298°F | ~4 g |
| 4 · Adjuster (ADJST01) | 2.25 in × 0.75 in × 0.45 in | Nylon (PA1000, HYLON N1000STL) | UL94 HB | 298°F | ~8 g |
| 5 · Lag bolt (LAG5501 / LAG6001) | 5-1/2 in (6 in option) × 5/16 in dia. | Stainless steel | — | — | ~45 g |
| 6 · Sealing washer (WASHR01) | 3/4 in OD | Butyl + stainless steel | — | — | ~2 g |
| Not included · L-Mount | Installer-supplied; works with most single-hole L-mounts. | ||||
Note: UL94 HB is a component flammability rating for the plastic parts — it is not a roof-system fire classification (Class A/B/C per ASTM E108 / UL 790), which is a separate, roof-assembly rating.

Materials & durability
Built from weather-facing materials.
The plate
20% mineral-filled polypropylene — a rigid, weather-stable engineering plastic (UL94 HB, rated to 241°F).
Spacer & adjuster
Nylon (PA1000) for the threaded standoff components — a tougher heat tolerance, rated to 298°F (UL94 HB).
Hardware
Stainless-steel lag bolt and washer body resist corrosion at the one fastener that reaches the structure.
The seal
A butyl sealing washer is designed to close the single fastener penetration — the weather-facing interface at the fastener.
Compatibility
Fits the way you already work.
L-mounts
- Works with most single-hole L-mounts (installer-supplied; single-hole preferred).
- You keep your preferred attachment hardware — SlatePlate is the interface to the slate.
Roof types
- Natural slate.
- Cedar shingles.
- Designed to work with synthetic / composite slate and stone roofs — confirm your specific roof with us.
Racking
- Mounts standard rail via the L-mount — so mainstream racking lands on the plate, not the stone.
- Compatible with most rail systems.
- Railless systems have not yet been tested or requested.
Proof
Tested, patented, and made here.
Wind-driven-rain tested to 110 MPH for water-tightness
SlatePlate passed rigorous TAS 100(A) wind-driven-rain testing at speeds up to 110 MPH, certified by Intertek — a third-party test of the weather-facing interface. This validates water-tightness (weather resistance), not structural or wind-uplift load capacity.
